A 43-year-old woman who swindled thousands of pounds in benefits has been spared jailed.

Tracy Cooper-Miles, of Abbotts Close, Stourport, pleaded guilty to four charges of failing to notify Wyre Forest District Council and the Department for Work and Pensions her partner was living with her.

Between July 7, 2008 to March 1, 2009 and November 29, 2010 to May 29, 2011, she was paid £4,033 in Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit and £4,474 in Income Support to which she was not entitled.

Kidderminster Magistrates sentenced her to to four weeks in prison suspended for 12 months when she appeared in court on Thursday, March 6.

Cooper-Miles was also made subject to a curfew requirement. She will be electronically tagged for three months and prevented from leaving her home from 10pm to 6am.

The overpayment will also have to be re-paid to the district council and the Department for Work and Pensions.
