Stourport toilet set to shut to save money

A PUBLIC toilet in Stourport is set to close after its funding was withdrawn to save money.

The toilet at the Vale Road Car Park will shut after Wyre Forest District Council asked Stourport Town Council to take over the running of it - which it declined.

It means the toilet will close on Tuesday, April 1 but Conservative councillor Marcus Hart, cabinet member for environmental services, said the Stourport Riverside toilet would remain open and local businesses, cafes and restaurants were being contacted about setting up a community toilet scheme.

He said: "We, as a district council, have to make substantial financial savings. We do want toilets in all three of our main town centres - Kidderminster, Stourport and Bewdley - with town councils managing any additional public toilets. With the Vale Road toilet being outside the town centre it is and always has been under-utilised, which the town council agreed."

He added: "We said the town council could take over the running of the toilets and they do not wish to do so."

It is hoped reviewing the district's entire toilet provision will result in the district council making savings of nearly £40,000 a year.

As usual no thought for PEOPLE,.So the poor pensioner who is more likely to need a public toilet as they get older will now have to walk all the way down to the river then struggle back up that hill to the town. Surely it is easier for older people to park in vale road if they wish to shop in Stourport.
£40,000 per year !!! equates to over £750 per week. How can that be possible. They obviously pay someone to clean probably once a day! then there is Electricity and water, nothing else, so I doubt that the costs are any more than at the most £100 per week plus maintenance. Try turning the lights of when it is closed for a start.
What pathetic institutions these so called councils are with so many incompetent people on them. Just wait until THEY become incontinent
