A PUBLIC toilet in Stourport is set to close after its funding was withdrawn to save money.
The toilet at the Vale Road Car Park will shut after Wyre Forest District Council asked Stourport Town Council to take over the running of it - which it declined.
It means the toilet will close on Tuesday, April 1 but Conservative councillor Marcus Hart, cabinet member for environmental services, said the Stourport Riverside toilet would remain open and local businesses, cafes and restaurants were being contacted about setting up a community toilet scheme.
He said: "We, as a district council, have to make substantial financial savings. We do want toilets in all three of our main town centres - Kidderminster, Stourport and Bewdley - with town councils managing any additional public toilets. With the Vale Road toilet being outside the town centre it is and always has been under-utilised, which the town council agreed."
He added: "We said the town council could take over the running of the toilets and they do not wish to do so."
It is hoped reviewing the district's entire toilet provision will result in the district council making savings of nearly £40,000 a year.
