AROUND 100 people have registered their interest in volunteering at Severn Valley Railway (SVR).

The railway hosted a volunteer jobs fair at Kidderminster Station during its members and shareholders weekend.

During the event about 100 people registered their interest in becoming a volunteer across departments including train crew, booking offices, footplate/motive power, SVR Charitable Trust, carriage and wagon and station staff.

A total of 33 names and addresses were also recorded by the volunteer liaison office (VLO) on the day to go forward for induction courses and one person was even given a date to begin their training.

Additional attractions at Kidderminster on the day included a steam engine, diesel locomotive and a brake coach/wagon in the platform, which visitors could view while chatting to volunteers about the various roles on offer. Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) Shuttles also ran to the Carriage Shed and Diesel Depot.

Among current volunteers was fireman Ryan Green, who has been involved with the railway for 11 years, starting in the junior club. He volunteers every other weekend.
