WAlKERS from Clows Top and Callow Hill will be pounding the streets of London to take part in an overnight marathon for a breast cancer charity.

Mother and daughter Julia Woodison and Laura Cripps, of Clows Top, and community nurse Angela Allan, of Callow Hill, will be taking on Walk the Walk's MoonWalk on Saturday, May 10.

The event will see 17,000 women walk 26.2 miles around London, with many stripping down to their custom-made bras to raise awareness of breast cancer.

Miss Cripps, 24, said: "This is our sixth year, it’s something we look forward to. It’s in London at night and you see all the landmarks and there’s a massive party atmosphere.

"You meet other people and that kind of spurs you on, it’s a completely different experience.

"One of the main reasons is for fitness but we also know people close to us who have died from breast cancer so that spurred us on to do something active and fundraise for the cause."

Miss Cripps and Mrs Woodison, 49, need to collect £100 each as a minimum but always try to get friends and family to sponsor them as much as possible.

Mrs Allan, 58, is taking part in the MoonWalk for the first time with a team, including her sister-in-law, from Kent.

She said: "Here I am, a woman of a certain age approaching my sixth decade, a time to reflect on life.

"I have a wonderful family, extended since remarrying four years ago. The arrival of grandchildren and the opportunities to travel made me realise how lucky I am.

"Walking 26 miles sounded impossible but with the encouragement of my family and friends I have been training since January, walking locally around the roads and lanes.

"It's not as daunting as I first thought with the bonus that I am healthier and fitter and so is my husband, who accompanies me.

"This is my opportunity to help others, women I will never know."
