VOLUNTEERS and staff helping to support Wyre Forest children and young people by providing a listening ear have been recognised at a special event in Kidderminster.

The Mayor of Kidderminster John Campion hosted the event at the town hall to thank the people behind children's charity Mentor Link.

The charity, set up in 2002, provides children and young people who may be experiencing difficult times with a volunteer mentor or counsellor.

Two mentors at Baxter College with 16 years of service between them were given flowers by the mayor.

Del Bell, of Kidderminster, has volunteered for nine years and Jayne Gibbs, of Bewdley, has clocked up seven years with the charity.

A special thank you was also given to Claire Quinn, one of the charity's volunteer recruiters, who has worked for the charity for nine years.

Chief executive Andrea Maddocks said: "This was a new event for Mentor Link as we wanted to say a big thank you to our dedicated volunteers and staff and hold it in a special location.

"Thank you to John Campion for hosting the event and for the drinks and wonderful cakes."
