A SAUCY tale will be told at Wyre Forest Historical Research Group's next meeting in Kidderminster.

Tony Deakin will be talking about Lea and Perrins on Tuesday, May 13 in the King Charles Room at Kidderminster Town Hall.

Spokeswoman Gay Hill said: "John Lea and William Perrins opened their chemist shop in Broad Street, Worcester in the 1820s.

"They first developed a special sauce in 1835 which proved to be rather unpalatable but it was allowed to mature for two years which greatly improved the flavour and it was then able to be marketed.

"At one time there were over 60 firms in Worcester all making their own version of what we now call Worcester Sauce. Lea and Perrins is the original and now the only firm still in Worcester to make this particular British favourite."
