Diamond couple celebrate wedding anniversary
6:40am Thursday 8th May 2014 in News
A DEDICATED Kidderminster Harriers fan and his wife are celebrating 60 years of marriage today.
Peter and June Korobejko, of Kidderminster, met at a dance in Blackwell Street in 1951 and were married at Kidderminster Register Office three years later.
Mr Korobejko, who is originally from the Ukraine, arrived in the UK in 1948 after being taken from his classroom by German forces at the age of 14.
He never returned home and failed to find his mother and sister after the Second World War ended.
Mrs Korobejko said her husband "always puts his family before himself" and particularly values them after his wartime ordeal.
She said: "We've fought our battles together and we've got through them. There's been some hard times but we've got three very good children so we can't complain at all. We've always been together and stayed together. "
The 80-year-old also praised her husband, 85, for looking after her after she had a heart attack in the early 1990s.
She added: "He's wonderful in the house. I didn't think he would be but during my illness, he was incredible. He looked after me very well.
"The family always pull our legs and say 'one can't do without the other'."
Mr Korobejko, who worked in the carpet industry and the vehicle testing station in Worcester Road, goes to see every Kidderminster Harriers home match with his son and grandson.
Mrs Korobejko was recognised in 2011 by the Women’s Royal Voluntary Service (WRVS) for volunteering in Kidderminster Hospital's shop for 17 years.
The couple, who have lived in the same house for 40 years, have three children, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild with a second on the way.
