THREE pupils at Comberton Primary School have raised over £650 for charity in memory of their fathers, who died unexpectedly this academic year.

A sudden heart attack killed the dad of twins Jodie and Daniella Thorpe, 11, while fellow year six pupil Callum Griffiths, 10, lost his dad to an illness.

The trio organised a Wear What You Like day in support of Kemp Hospice, which helped both families through their bereavement.

Callum said: “I wanted to raise money for Kemp because they were there for me and my family when my dad died.”

Jodie and Daniella Thorpe added: “We have appreciated all the help from Jackie at Kemp since we lost our dad and we wanted to show them how grateful we are by raising as much money as we could.”

The hospice has provided the children with emotional support and a residential trip and has also trained the school’s teachers in dealing with bereavement.

Bryony Boulton, a year six class teacher at Comberton Primary School, said: “We are all extremely proud of the children for organising this fundraising day to raise money for a charity that is highly valued by the school.

“It’s great to see the school community come together and raise such a large sum of money, the highest amount to date.”

The children collected thousands of coins from their classmates and displayed them in a K for Kemp shape in the school hall before counting up the coppers to reveal a total of £658.27.
