BARCLAYS bank in Bewdley is set to close - but it is not believed any jobs are on the line.

The banking firm confirmed to The Shuttle the Load Street store in Bewdley will close on Friday, August 15, as a result of fewer people using the branch.

There will be no change to Barclays branches in Stourport and the bank plans to invest in its Kidderminster branch.

A Barclays spokeswoman said: "I can confirm our branch on Load Street, Bewdley, will be closing on August 15. This is a result of declining use of this branch. Customers will be able to use our other nearby branches in Kidderminster and Stourport, many customers are already using these branches.

"In addition, deposits and withdrawals can be carried out at the Post Office in Bewdley. We will be investing in our branch in Kidderminster in due course to provide additional facilities to our customers."

The spokeswoman added: "We are working closely with our staff to avoid any compulsory redundancies through redeployment opportunities where possible."

There are current three people working at the branch.

Wyre Forest MP Mark Garnier said: "It is important Bewdley has a bank in it and I am very sad for people whose jobs are uncertain and for those who do not use other branches."
