WYRE Forest Historical Research Group’s next meeting will take place on Tuesday 10th June at Kidderminster Town Hall.
Starting at 2pm, Pauline Annis, chairman of Stourport Civic Society, will give a talk on Stanley Baldwin, a former Prime Minister from Worcestershire.
Mr Baldwin was the son of Alfred Baldwin, a local ironfounder in Wilden, who was also the MP for Bewdley. Mr Baldwin took over his father’s constituency in 1908.
Gay Hill, publicity officer for the group, said: “Although he was Prime Minister three times, notably at the time of the abdication crisis, Stanley retained many links with, and a deep love for, Worcestershire.
“He also anonymously donates £150,000, now worth over £5 million, to the treasury in 1919 in order to reduce the national debt.
“We look forward to hearing about this and more from Pauline.”
A small entry fee applies, which does include refreshments.
