SPRINGFIELD Park in Kidderminster will be hosting the fourth annual Spring into Summer event this Sunday, June 8, which includes entertainment and activities for all the family.

The free event will run from 11am to 4pm and features traditional favourites such as Punch and Judy, Morris Dancers and donkey rides.

Jayne Nicholl, vice chair of Friends of Springfield Park, organisers, said: “This is the fourth year that the Friends Group has run the event and each year it grows in size and reputation.

“We are expecting in the region of 700 people this year and the event has become an important part of the local calendar.

“We believe no child should be excluded from having fun and so we continually fundraise through grants, sales of refreshments and bric-a-brac so that we can put on this fantastic fun-filled family day for free.”

Alongside the old style entertainment will be a birds of prey display, a silt walker, juggler, face painter and balloon modeller.

There will also be a bouncy castle and slides for the younger visitors and skills will be tested with the Wolf Mountain climbing wall, a rodeo bull, a slow bicycle race and kite flying.

There will also be stalls, sideshows and the Springfield stocks for visitors to throw wet sponges at their chosen targets.

Friends of Springfield are a small group of local people, set up in 2009, working with the council, and other partners to improve the park.

The group meet every third Thursday of the month at St Mary’s School to discuss the current issues relating to the park and the community, and arrange events to help promote and develop the park.
