Volunteers needed to help run reading challenge
VOLUNTEERS are needed to help Worcestershire County Council run this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.
The volunteers can be of any age, but the council are looking for young people from the ages of 13 to 19 in particular.
The aim of the challenge, which will launch on June 21, is to get children to read during the summer months, with the council hoping children will read up to six books during the school holidays.
The main duties of the challenge volunteers include helping to enrol children in the challenge, as well as give them continued support throughout the summer with their reading.
Other duties include handing out rewards, assisting with displays and activities in the libraries and helping children pick out suitable books.
Worcestershire county councillor Lucy Hodgson, cabinet member with responsibility for localism and communities, said: “The reading challenge gives children the opportunity to continue to read throughout the summer.
“This has been a very popular event in the past and we anticipate this year will generate the same level of interest too.
“Everyone is welcome to come along and search the varied books libraries across the county have on offer.”
