A FLAG flying ceremony to support Britain’s armed forces will take place in Bewdley.

Members of the public are being encouraged to show their support and attend the event being organised by Wyre Forest District Council, which takes place on June 23 - to celebrate armed forces day on June 28.

The flag flying ceremony takes place outside the front of Bewdley Museum in Load Street at 10am, when guests and members of the public are asked to arrive. Standard bearers and members of various associations will be lead from the QE11 gardens at the back of Bewdley Museum, through the courtyard, out to the front of the museum where they will line up ready for proceedings.

At 1.15am, guests will be formally welcomed by district council dignitaries and at 10.20am prayers will be led by the Rev Chris Allen. The flag will be raised by the district council chairman at 10.30am to honour the British Armed Forces.

After the raising of the flag, pupils from Bewdley-based St Anne’s Primary School will perform a few songs. Among those attending are members of Wyre Forest Royal British Legion branches, the RAF Association, the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Association, and the Royal Naval Association.

Conservative councillor Marcus Hart, leader of the council, said: “The armed forces flag flying ceremony is an annual opportunity for everyone to show their support for the men and women who make up the armed forces community, from currently serving troops to service families and from veterans to cadets.

“We urge Wyre Forest residents to come to the flag flying ceremony outside Bewdley Museum and if appropriate to wear their full military regalia, berets, blazers or uniform.”
