MEMBERS of St Chad’s Church, Comberton, celebrated church hall refurbishments by hosting a strawberry fair.

Held in the hall’s cafe, the fair raised more than £230 from sales of homemade cakes and refreshments, with the funds being donated to a senior citizen group, which meets at the hall on Wednesdays.

Mattie Underhill, organiser, said: “It was a great morning – we were very pleased with how it all went.

“Not only was it just members of the church who turned up, we also had residents from the local area and other churchgoers from the rest of St George’s Parish come along.

“We raised £283 altogether for the senior citizen group, which will be a big help to them. About £60 was raised from the cafe and the rest from stalls.”

The cafe is housed in the newly-refurbished hall, where £12,500 was spent on a suspended lit ceiling, as well as the fitting of triple-glazed windows and new wiring.

St Chad’s Church’s next fundraising event takes place on Saturday, July 12, when it will play a part in the annual Borrington Bash.
