TWO play areas in Wyre Forest will be refurbished in a £113,000 project.

Renovations of Tudor Road park in Bewdley and Manor Farm park in Stourport will be carried out by Oakleaf Commercial Services, part of The Community Housing Group.

The new designs, which are subject to approval by planners and community consultation, include the installation of slides and swings, as well as safety updates.

Keith Burgess, executive business manager of Oakleaf Commercial Services, said: “This is a significant investment in the area and forms part of our commitment to the local community.

“The new parks will help improve health and wellbeing by giving families the chance to get out and about and enjoy the fresh air on their doorstep.”

Mr Burgess added that the work, funded by The Community Housing Group, had been timetabled to take place over three weeks in October to avoid disruption during the busy summer months.

The equipment in both parks has been designed for children aged under 11 and at Tudor Road a significant part of the renovation will be spent on improving safety for these youngsters by replacing tree bark cushioning with a modern, rubberised flooring.

Mayor of Bewdley, Derek Killingworth, said: “It is fantastic this upgrade will happen because the Tudor Road play area has needed updating for a long time.

“After the refurbishment children will be able to play in a safe environment rather on the streets.

Mayor of Stourport, Cliff Brewer, added: “The Community Housing Group really contributes a lot to our town and the new investment is very welcome. For residents to have this on their own estate is very beneficial.”
