A STOURPORT day service has been helped in the renovation of its garden by students from the Prince’s Trust.

Headway, a charity which aims to improve the life of people who have suffered a brain injury, has its regional headquarters, Headway House, in Galahad Way.

The Prince’s Trust team 184 from Kidderminster, led by Paul Stephens, chose to undertake a community project at the house.

Racheal Day, service manager for Headway Worcestershire, said: “The house has a large garden area, which had become overgrown and unmanageable for our service users, staff and volunteers.

“The students discussed with our staff and users the objective of the garden and what would make the area more user friendly.”

Renovation plans were designed by the trust to ensure clear access, safe pathways and raised beds for planting, weeding and propagation of vegetables.

Miss Day said: “I cannot thank team 184 enough. They worked really hard throughout the hot weather to ensure the project was finished within two weeks.

“Service users can now access the area safely and with a clear purpose, which will give a huge amount of satisfaction while carrying out therapeutic activities to aid their rehabilitation.

“Users who are keen gardeners but struggle with bending and lifting due to limited ability will now be able to engage in activities of their choice.”

The trust supplied the materials for the garden makeover and used designs that could make use of recycled timber, plastic and metal.

Miss Day added: “The area has been given a new lease of life by adding colour and dividing the large space in specific areas.

“The service users and staff are already planning a traditional garden party to celebrate their new garden.”

Funding for the renovation was helped by a donation from the Monday night bingo group at the Rising Sun, in Lombard Street.

The Prince’s Trust supports 13 to 30-year-olds by giving practical and financial support to the young people are not in work, education or training and helps develop key skills, confidence and motivation.
