A WOMAN had a large amount of cash stolen from her when her handbag was snatched by a robber in a Kidderminster subway.

Police are appealing for witnesses and information as they investigate the incident, which happened just after 10am on Tuesday, May 27, following the bank holiday.

A woman in her 40s was carrying business takings from the weekend in her handbag and was in the subway under the Ringway, which leads from Coventry Street to George Street, when she became aware of someone behind her.

She was then shoved, causing her head to hit the wall, and her handbag was pulled from her shoulder. Her attacker left the scene as she was trying to recover her mobile phone, which had fallen to the ground. No description of the offender is available.

The woman carried on through the subway to George Street and rang the police from there shortly afterwards. She did not require medical treatment.

Det Con Amy Kitosi-Isanga said that an investigation was ongoing. She added: “The victim was extremely scared at the time and left the subway as quickly as she could.

"She did not see her attacker come past her so it would appear the person emerged from the subway in Coventry Street.

"Therefore, if anyone was seen running from the subway that morning or someone knows anything at all about who might have been involved, please get in touch.”
