BEWDLEY pop sensation Becky Hill has scored her first official UK number one.

BBC Radio 1 DJ Jameela Jamil revealed on Sunday Miss Hill's single with Oliver Heldens - Gecko (Overdrive) - had entered at the top of the chart, which is compiled based on single sales and downloads.

The former Bewdley High School and Sixth Form Centre, who was a 2012 star on the BBC's The Voice, tweeted: "MY FIRST EVER NUMBER ONE!! I wanna thank you all for supporting me on #Gecko & @OliverHeldens & @MNEK for having & helping me. Love you all".

After retweeting several messages of congratulations from her fans, she added: "Celebrating #Gecko going to number one at the Getty Museum in LA! Feel so blessed right now".

Miss Hill was tipped by mentor Jessie J for super stardom after falling at the semi-final stage of the BBC talent series. She has since signed for Parlophone Records and performed live with some of the biggest acts in the chart during the past two years including Rudimental.

The A level music and art student was well known in Bewdley before finding international fame, from working in HR's bar and the Cock and Magpie and performing there.
