A DANCE group from Kidderminster have outperformed 200 other acts to gain a place at a national festival.

Translucent Youth Dance Company, which is based at Kidderminster College, participated in U Dance 2014, an event that showcases the best in youth dance from across the country.

The group were selected after a successful audition at the Midlands Youth Dance Festival.

Anna Lines, artistic director of the company and dance lecturer, said: “Since forming the company in September, 2013 I have been privileged to work with some of the most talented young dancers in the region.

“U Dance 2014 has been a great opportunity and we were very excited to take part.

“It also affirms Kidderminster College as one of the premier centres for teaching and devising contemporary youth dance at a national level.”

Translucent Youth Dance Company performed Undisclosed, a new original piece that explores the innermost tensions and stresses experienced when trying to withhold information and keep secrets concealed, at the U Dance 2014 event at the Nottingham Playhouse last Saturday.

The group, which has been invited to perform at the International Dance Festival in Birmingham, will also be holding an audition for new members aged between 14 and 19 at Kidderminster College on August 20.
