WYRE Forest's MP has expressed his "delight" at the announcement that two major local infrastructure projects will be funded under the Local Growth Fund scheme.

The Hoobrook Link Road will open up the old sugar beet site in the south of Kidderminster, while the Kidderminster station interchange will create a purpose-built transport hub for the town and district.

It comes as part of the first £6 billion wave announcement of at least a £12 billion country-wide package for infrastructure spending across the country.

Conservative Mark Garnier has been lobbying for Wyre Forest’s inclusion in the package, including meeting the Chancellor of the Exchequer to secure Wyre Forest’s place in the list of successful applications.

Mr Garnier described the announcement as "incredibly important for Wyre Forest". He added: "Opening up the Sugar Beet site as part of the South Kidderminster business park is vital to bring jobs and prosperity to our district.

“The station interchange is also very important. Kidderminster Station has been a fast-growing station and having a purpose-built transport hub will make Kidderminster a far better place to live and work.

"I am pleased to have been able to play a part in securing this funding.”
