UNEMPLOYMENT in Wyre Forest is continuing to fall according to figures released today by the Office for National Statistics.

The number of unemployed claimants in June was 1,295, a decrease of 843 since June 2013 and 121 lower than in May of this year.

This represents an unemployment percentage of 2.8 per cent, lower than both the rates of West Midlands (4.1 per cent) and nationally (3.3 per cent).

In 2010 the percentage of unemployment in Wyre Forest was 4.8 per cent and the number of unemployed claimants has dropped by more than a quarter since.

Mark Garnier MP for Wyre Forest said he is delighted with the continued fall.

“Yet again this is very positive news for Wyre Forest,” he said.

“Another big fall in unemployment locally highlights the hard work that we do locally is really paying off.

“However it is important to not be complacent and I will continue to hold events such as jobs fairs in Wyre Forest to help local job seekers find employment.

“Additionally, whilst these numbers are fantastic and extremely welcome, we will be checking the data to ensure that it is not hiding any underlying issues.”
