A BEWDLEY pub has received an accolade from Wyre Forest CAMRA.
The Rising Sun, in Kidderminster Road in the tourist town, was named pub of the season for spring 2014 by the district branch of the campaign for real ale.
Members of the club gathered at the pub and presented the landlords Geoff and Kaye Mansfield, who spoke of the improvements they had made to the establishment and their hopes for the future, with a certificate.
Nick Yarwood, chairman of Wyre Forest CAMRA, said: “The award is in recognition of the hard work that Geoff and Kaye Mansfield have put in over the years and their unwavering dedication to serving good beers.
“The Rising Sun is a hive of community life, always buzzing with conversation and there is invariably something special going on such as traditional pub games, clubs, quizzes and music on Sundays.
“Kaye and Geoff Mansfield have kept it for four years and transformed it into a lively proper pub, always offering top quality real ales from Bank’s, Wye Valley and Enville.
“With these being from local breweries the pub is accredited in CAMRA’s LocAle scheme in which the pub always offers at least one ale from breweries within 25 miles.”
The drinking group also held a new members’ welcome evening at The Swan in Vicar Street in Kidderminster.
44 new members, who had joined during the recent Kidderminster Beer Festival, socialised with existing members and learnt more about the club.
They were also treated to behind-the-scenes stories about the history and working of Kinver Brewery from brewers Ian Davies and Dave and Carol Kelly.
