BEWDLEY will be alive with random acts of kindness this week.

Gifts of flowers and chocolates will be handed out, peoples’ shopping baskets will be paid for and coffee shops will serve free drinks.

The Love Bewdley event has been set up by Riverside Elim church, which raised funds for the project at a special offering, and 50 members of its congregation will carry out the generous deeds.

Reverend Carl Johnston, who helped organise the scheme, said: “Love Bewdley will be a practical demonstration of our faith.

“The Bible talks a lot about generosity, we believe God is a giving God and as Christians we are called to be generous.

“We wanted therefore an opportunity to be extravagantly generous to our local community and the idea of Love Bewdley was born.

“It is community action that is not about cash or money but about random acts of kindness.

“We hope the good deeds will be contagious and that Love Bewdley will become more than just an event but a broader strategy for the whole town and a chance for our church to engage with residents.”

Love Bewdley will take place from Wednesday, August 6 to Saturday, August 9.

In the mornings there will be random acts of kindness throughout the town, while in the afternoons the volunteers will tidy up gardens, litter-pick in parks and clear graffiti in Wribbenhall and Bark Hill.
