GREEN-fingered residents of Wyre Forest are being encouraged to brighten up their gardens by the organisers of a horticultural event.

Plant Hunters’ Fairs, which will hold a plant sale at Bodenham Arboretum in Wolverley, has promised a great range of colourful flowers and shrubs capable of breathing life into any green space.

Entry to the event on Saturday, August 30, from 11am to 5pm is free, while parking is also available at no cost.

Martin Blow, of Plant Hunters' Fairs, said: “As summer reaches its finale and thoughts turn to autumn we are always in need of some late colour to brighten our beds and borders.

“It is also a great time to put your plans for next year into action with some autumn planting.

“New to the event is Potterton’s gold medal winning alpines all the way from Lincolnshire. Rob Potterton will have a great range of spring flowering alpine bulbs ready to plant now.

“For a burst of late colour perennial specialists Tissington Nursery, Hillview, Hall Farm, Cotswolds Garden Flowers and Special Perennials will have something to put the zing back into your beds and borders.

“The 15 specialist nurseries at the event will have plants for every garden in whatever colour takes your fancy.”

Visitors can also pay an entrance fee to explore the 156-acre Bodenham Arboretum site, which includes more than 3,000 varieties of trees and shrubs, several miles of pathways and a working farm.
