TRAVELLERS who occupied Bewdley School’s playing fields last Friday did not stay for the weekend.
Several caravans and vehicles left the site at around 8pm on Friday, as promised to school bosses, and students were able to participate in a full timetable of physical education classes today.
Wyre Forest District Council organised a litter-pick to clear rubbish from the green space but otherwise the travellers’ departure occurred without incident.
Mrs Julie Reilly, headteacher of The Bewdley School and Sixth Form Centre, said: "The travellers left as arranged and I was very pleased that they honoured our agreement and were true to their word.
“All facilities and classes are now back to normal.”
The travellers, who had previously set up camp at the Gilt Edge Leisure Centre in Kidderminster before invading the Bewdley site, are believed to have moved outside of Wyre Forest.
Their presence last Friday had forced the school to implement alternative arrangements for sports lessons.
