A MOUTH-watering talk about baking will take place in Bewdley as part of the town’s annual book week.

Mary-Anne Boermans, of Kidderminster, who was one of the 12 contestants in The Great British Bake Off in 2011, will discuss her award-winning hardback Great British Bakes: Forgotten Treasures for Modern Bakers on Saturday, September 13 at 2.30pm at St George’s Hall.

The book is the result of Mary-Anne's extensive research into the UK's baking history and adapts recipes that have been honed and perfected over the centuries for the modern kitchen.

It reveals the stories behind the recipes with tales of escaped princes, hungry politicians and royal excursions to sample baking delicacies and includes details for tempting delights such as Welsh honey cake, lace meringues, rich orange tart, butter buns, pearl biscuits and chocolate meringue pie.

Great British Bakes: Forgotten Treasures for Modern Bakers won the Guild of Food Writers 2014 Award for best first book and copies of the acclaimed title will be available after the talk.

The literary festival, which will take place from Monday, September 8 to Sunday, September 14, includes a range of speakers including prize-winning historical novelist Mary Hamer, motivator Derek Mills and writer of hit summer movie The Unbeatables, Richard O Smith.

Tickets for all events can be purchased from the town’s tourist information centre in person or by telephone on 08456 077819.
