A YOUNG mum was dragged along by a car as she snatched her puppy back from dognappers - while holding her baby daughter.

Gutsy 24-year-old Stacy Gibson, who lives on the outskirts of Stourport, saw red after a man grabbed five and a half week old British bulldog Scout, worth over £1,000.

She gave chase, while still holding her crying 11-month-old daughter Shelby Guest on her hip, and began climbing through the window of the getaway car, clinging on to the seat belt.

She was dragged, bare-footed along the ground for about four metres as the driver begged her to let go.

But she told him: "I'm not leaving without the dog."

He eventually shouted to the passenger, who had taken the puppy: "Give her the dog back. The baby's going to get hurt."

Miss Gibson, who had advertised her two-year-old British bulldog Holly's four pedigree puppies for sale through the Pets4Homes website, suffered bruising to her hip, glass in her left foot and her toe nail was ripped off during the terrifying drama on Friday.

"I was so angry I just went after him when he took the puppy," she said.

"I probably deserve the 'Worst Mum' award for doing it with my baby in my arms - but I wasn't going to let him get away with the puppy."

Miss Gibson received a call from a man responding to her advert last Friday.

She agreed for him to call at her home to view Scout, the only puppy still for sale as buyers had been found for the other three.

But, when she answered the door, he barged past her and grabbed Scout, as well as a male puppy, Digby.

Miss Gibson, who lives with her 28-year-old partner, James Guest, managed to take Digby from him but he ran out to a waiting gold Volvo S60, containing the driver and three other men in the back seat.

She headed after him - determined he would not get away with Scout.

"I had no shoes on and was holding Shelby but it was just instinct to go after him," said Miss Gibson.

She has reported the crime to police and is appealing for help to find the men or their car, which bore the registration DE53 SHK, believed to be a fake plate.

The man who snatched Scout was aged 26 to 28, 5ft 6in with dark spiky hair and a small dark moustache and goatee beard.

He wore a white polo top with a blue stripe on each shoulder, blue jeans and a brown belt.

The driver was in his mid 30s, had a "portly belly", blondish hair and acne scarring on his face.

Miss Gibson now plans to keep Scout, rather than sell her - because she "can't bear to let her go" after the ordeal.

West Mercia Police are appealing for anyone with information about it to call 101, quoting incident number 300 of September 5.
