A SCHOOLBOY had a life lesson for his birthday as his real present was stolen out of his parents’ car.

Samuel Timney got a new electric scooter for his sixth birthday on Wednesday (September 10), but after just four days of using it, it was stolen when it was left in the car outside his home.

His father, Joseph Timney, said his son was very disappointed when he realised it had gone on Sunday (September 14) morning.

“We went to a wedding Saturday night and Sam wanted to get the balloons out of the car, but when he closed the door and pressed the lock button, the door was not closed properly and it stayed open.

“He had been nagging about the scooter, he had changed his mind a few times, but this is what he wanted.”

The family, who live in Gainsborough Mews, also had a TomTom sat nav with charger and cables and a work mobile phone stolen between 9.45pm on Saturday and 9.30am on Sunday.

“We have had a sat nav and a work phone taken but we’re not bothered about that,” Mr Timney said. “How do you tell a six-year-old that someone nicked your scooter?”

Mr Timney took Samuel, who is a pupil at the Franche School, to the police station on Sunday to report the crime himself to better understand what had happened.

The electric scooter is blue with no make or model and has a crack near the front-right screw on the foot plate, which was due to be repaired.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact West Mercia Police on the non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference number 252S of September 14 2014.
