KIDDERMINSTER Horticultural Society’s 60th annual show went “exceedingly well” and was a “lovely day out”.

Crowds flocked to the Country Fair and Horticultural Show, which took place in the Wyre Forest sunshine at Mercure Kidderminster Hotel last weekend, to experience floral, fruit, vegetable and craft creations from around 800 entrants.

The event, which featured an array of exhibitions and activities for the whole family, was officially opened by Midlands Today presenter Michael Collie who was “very impressed” with the two-day spectacle.

Louise Aston, a society committee member who helped organise the show, said: “We were very, very pleased and it all went exceedingly well.

“There was a good turnout from the general public, the weather was kind to us and we had some super stall holders with a great variety of trades.

“Competition was of a high standard and all entries were judged by our panel of experts.

“Families told us they thought it was a lovely day out with a nice, friendly atmosphere and a lot going on for children.”

She added the event was “growing and achieving a higher footfall each year”.

Alongside the traditional horticultural show of floral, fruit, vegetable, wine and craft displays, the event featured a gardeners’ question time, cookery demonstrations, vintage vehicles, classic agricultural tools and an old-fashioned threshing machine.

There was also entertainment including dancers, fire eating, dog agility, a Victorian round-a-bout, walking stick carving, sing-a-long forties music and a bouncy castle, while refreshments of homemade cakes, teas, sandwiches and an all-day barbecue proved popular.
