SHOPPERS at the new Tesco store in Stourport are being asked to decide how the store spends a £2,000 donation within the community.

The recently opened store, in Severn Road, launched a Tesco Helping Hand Competition as a way to support the area and discover worthwhile local organisations in need of support.

To nominate an organisation, customers have to fill in an entry form in store and post it in the entry box provided before Saturday’s (October 18) closing date.

Store manager Chris Collins, who will be looking through all the entries with his staff before selecting the winners, said: “As a new store it is really important to us that we play an active and supporting role in our local community.

“This competition is about giving our shoppers the chance to tell us which organisations and projects they would like to see Tesco support in their area.

“If customers know of any local groups needing financial help towards repair work, launching a new service, setting up a new branch or towards the day to day running of existing practices, we hope to hear from them.”

The new store was declared officially open on September 25 by 99-year-old former Tesco employee, Louvain Mountford, who joined Mr Collins and launch guests to cut a ceremonial ribbon.

During the ceremony, store staff also presented a £1,000 donation to the Stourport Civic Group.

Mr Collins added: “We have been delighted with the positive feedback since our launch celebrations.

“The improved offering in store has been a big hit and we are pleased we have been able to offer our customers an improved shopping experience.

“We hope that through our Helping Hand Competition our launch celebrations will continue and we hope to receive a good selection of entries that mean something to our customers.”

To nominate a worthwhile cause for the Tesco donation, visit the store between 8am and 8pm Monday to Thursday or between 8am and 9pm on Friday and Saturday.
