A MAN slammed a kitchen door so hard during an argument with his partner it needed replacing, a court heard.

Carl Watkiss caused the damage after confronting his partner about an alleged affair with their next door neighbour's son on September 30.

Kate Price, prosecuting, said before the argument Watkiss also threatened to hurt his partner in front of one of their eldest daughters.

She said: "He believed she had been having an affair with the neighbour's 16-year-old son. He threatened to smash a glass in her face and she said she would call the police."

The argument then followed into the kitchen of the housing association-owned home where the 34-year-old slammed the door too hard causing the handle to come off. He had also done damage to it previously when he punched it in another argument and assaulted his partner by throwing a lighter at her in July last year for which he received a conditional discharge for two years.

Barry Newton, defending, the couple would be continuing their 14-year relationship together despite this incident, which had a domestic violence element.

Watkiss, of Shaw Hedge Road, Bewdley, pleaded guilty to criminal damage to the kitchen door, worth £100, when he appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday, October 16.

This conviction put Watkiss in breach of the conditional discharge so before sentence is decided, chairman of the magistrates Stephen Gillespie ordered Watkiss to complete a full pre-sentence report.

He was granted bail on the condition he had no contact with his partner or entered their address in Usmere Road and is due to appear in court again on November 13.
