KIDDERMINSTER was cleaned up last week by the help of the Wombles as part of a national Big Tidy Up campaign.

At the Dowles Community Centre last Saturday (October 11) members of the YMCA, Wyre Forest District Councillor Michael Wrench and volunteers at the centre ran a treasure hunt litter pick where families could search for the Golden Rubbish signs on the Rifle Range estate in Kidderminster.

Year 10 students of Baxter College, local children and special guest Orinoco from the Wombles took part in the litter pick as part of the national Keep Britain Tidy campaign.

Mr Wrench said: “The children really enjoyed the walk around the estate and could not believe how much rubbish was collected.

“More than 40 bags of rubbish were collected in a record two hours, which earned five lucky winners family tickets to the West Midlands Safari Park bonfire and fireworks night on Sunday November 9."

Nina Price, Centre Manager of Dowles Road Community Centre, said: “It was great to see so many agencies get involved in the day including YMCA, The Community Housing Group, Baxter College and District Councillors.

“The estate looks so much better as a result of all their hard work and we look forward to doing more community events at the Community Centre in the near future.”
