A KIDDERMINSTER video shop which was only opened three months ago has been nominated for a Worcestershire Business Award.

Videodrome, in Comberton Place, is up for the High Street Business Award which recognises the contributions of independent retailers to the local community.

Shop owner and former Blockbusters employee, Rebecca Clarke, said: “It was a bit of a shock when I received a phone call saying that I had been shortlisted to the final three as I was unaware we had been nominated.”

Following the closure of her former employers, Rebecca identifies a gap in the market for a rental DVD shop in Kidderminster.

“Videodrome is not just about DVD rentals,” she said.

“It’s somewhere customers can enjoy a real movie experience in our shop full of unique movie memorabilia.

“We pride ourselves on our personal service and the face to face experience our shop provides.”

The store, which stocks hard to get films on multi-formats, specialises in horror, art house and foreign movies, as well as selling movie memorabilia and vinyls.

To win the award, Videodrome faces competition from The Deli @ Pershore and Sub Studio Photography in Worcester.

Public voting, which closes on Friday, October 31, accounts for 25 per cent of the overall score with the rest coming from a judging panel to determine the winners – who will receive an iPad.

The results will be announced during a ceremony on Wednesday, November 19, at Sixways Stadium in Worcester.
