STAFF at Baxter College celebrated a hat-trick of wins at this year’s National Awards for School Support Staff.

During a ceremony at the Burlington Hotel in Birmingham, the school took home top honours in three out of the eight award categories including School Administrator of the Year, Business Manager of the Year in a Secondary School and Team of the Year.

Dave Seddon, headteacher, said he was privileged to attend the event.

“I would have been delighted to win one national award but to win three is absolutely amazing,” he said.

“Nobody could be more proud of their staff and these awards recognise the contribution they have made to the success and achievements of Baxter College.”

Alison Common won the school administrator award to recognise her “dogged resilience, in taking on responsibilities way beyond her job description and showing excellence in all she does”, while Jenny Lane was named top business manager for “outstanding personal qualities of honesty and openness and her amazing ability at income generation, that has brought in over £5 million to the Worcestershire school”.

The icing on the cake for Baxter was the Team of the Year award won by the Finance and Business team for “their teamwork, their dedication and obvious pride in their school”.

Mr Seddon added: “Support staff are often the unsung heroes of schools and our hidden army make sure we are operationally fit for purpose.”

The winners each received an engraved cut-glass trophy and a cheque for £1,000 to put towards a project of their choice.
