A VOLUNTEER for Wyre Forest Dial-A-Ride has been rewarded with an award which recognises his willing to go the extra mile in improving access for members.

Jonathan Haley, 70, of Stourport, decided to pay back something to the community in 1996 and became a volunteer driver for Dial-A-Ride and he is still serving disabled people from all over the Wyre Forest District 18 years later.

Mr Haley is a popular figure well known to members who have benefitted from his caring and considerate manner.

His efforts were recognised with the award of a Mike Oborski ‘No Barriers’ Award.

Mr Haley said: “I am really pleased to be given this award as I thoroughly enjoy working with Dial-A-Ride and particularly the wonderful people who travel with us.

“To be recognised for volunteering to help others is something special and makes it all worthwhile.”

Mr Haley received his award from Councillor Fran Oborski at a special ceremony in Kidderminster last week which was witnessed by his wife Margaret and Dial-A-Ride manager, Nigel Caldicott.

Mr Caldicott said: “I regularly receive really positive feedback from our members about the high quality of service that Jonathan consistently provides for our members.

“It is particularly pleasing that he has been publicly recognised for all the hard work and dedication he has demonstrated over such a long period of time.”
