A WYRE Forest activity centre is staging a host of events in the run up to Christmas to cater for all tastes and abilities.

One of the first events of the festive period at Bishops Wood Centre, in Stourport, is a one day introductory course on Saturday, November 22, called A Beginner's Guide to Digital Photography.

The course aims to help people get to grips with their camera and learn techniques for taking great snaps.

Live music, clog dancing and charismatic storytelling is also coming to the centre as part of a performance of Under Her Skin, on Thursday, November 27.

Starting at 7.30pm, the show provides a 21st century slant on an ancient sea tale, taking the audience from a quiet cove to city rush hour.

Tickets for the show, which is being run in collaboration with Shindig – a company that brings professional performers to community venues, cost £9 for adults or £7 for under 16s and Friends of Bishops Wood.

On Saturday, December 13, a wood carving workshop will lead people through the process and techniques of working with green wood and knives to produce a spoon.

While the last event before Christmas, on Sunday, December 14, invites families to take part in a special event involving Christmas crafts and storytelling in Santa's grotto.

The cost for the spoon carving workshop, which is suitable for all ages, is £45 and entry to the following days event costs £4 for adults and £2 for children.

Worcestershire County Councillor Lucy Hodgson, cabinet member for localism and communities, said: “The centre is a great setting for some interesting and unusual events this autumn and winter.”
