WYRE Forest schools and youth groups are being asked to get creative by Worcestershire County Council to showcase their involvement with the local community.

Council chairman, Pam Davey, is running a video competition, with the content left up to each group to decide, which demonstrates how they get involved.

The video entries will be judged throughout the end of February by a panel that will include the Vice Chancellor of the University of Worcester, the High Sherriff of Worcestershire and the managing director of a company specialising in the production of promotional and educational videos.

Councillor Davey said: “Schools and youth groups do so many things that involve the local community, I thought this competition would be a great way for them to showcase the valuable work they do.

“It may also inspire other young people and their teachers and leaders, by seeing what has already been achieved, to get involved in their local community.”

The closing date for video entries is Friday, February 13, with entries being split into three age groups – five to 11, 12 to 15 and 16 to 18.

Each age group winner will receive a small cash prize donated by the chairman.

County councillor Lucy Hodgson, cabinet member for localism and communities, said: “Getting involved with the local community provides benefits on many different levels, from getting to know and care for local people and amenities to improving an individual sense of well-being by giving something back.

“We know that young people get involved all over the county and by using video technology, we hope to hear from them, in their own way and in their own words, what it means to get involved.”

Interested groups are asked to complete a form by the end of November to let the council know they will be producing a video for the competition.
