A MAN thought to be in possession of a gun and threatening to hurt himself and a member of his family at a Stourport address has appeared in court.

Police were called to a property in Baldwin Road at about 11.20pm on Thursday, November 13, where reports had been received that Richard Wilkes was making threats with a firearm.

Officers quickly attended, including a police negotiator and police dog, and a safe resolution was reached at about 1.30am.

Nobody was injured.

The 27-year-old was arrested at the scene on suspicion of affray and a firearms offence. He was taken to hospital to be checked over before being taken into police custody.

A thorough search of the property was carried out but no firearms were found. A number of kitchen knives were seized from the property.

Wilkes, of Baldwin Road, was charged with using threatening/abusive/insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear or provoke unlawful violence and being in possession of an offensive weapon in public.

The defendant appeared before magistrates at Worcester Magistrates' Court on Saturday, November 15, and pleaded guilty to the threat charge and the weapons charge was withdrawn.

Wilkes was granted bail to attend a sentencing hearing at Kidderminster Magistrates' Court on December 4 on the condition he live and sleep in Beech Road, Wednesbury, he not go to Baldwin Road, Stourport, and he co-operate with West Mercia Probation Service in the making of pre-sentence reports.
