A FUNDRAISING couple have raised over £3000 for Macmillan and Kemp Hospice with various events culminating with their wedding in December.

Lisa Hill and Vinny Pearce, from Kidderminster, started to raise money for the charities, when Lisa’s mother, Sue Whitehouse, was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

After being told by doctors, there was nothing that could be done and that they could not operate, Lisa and Vinny decided to get married, after 12 years together, so her mother could be part of their big day.

Miss Hill said: “We decided to start fundraising mainly because it was such a shock to find out my mother was so poorly. I just want to help other families that are affected by this.

“The local charity, Kemp Hospice, have been so supportive to our family which is why I wanted to raise money for them.

“Currently I am caring for my mother, but eventually Macmillan are going to have to be involved in looking after her, so I wanted to raise money for them as well.”

So far the couple have held a waxing event and a sponsored fancy dress walk from Green Hill to Bewdley. They even held their joint hen and stag do to raise money for the worthy charities.

The final fundraising event is their wedding on Saturday, December 6, which they organised in seven days. The couple have asked people not to buy them presents, and instead to donate the money they would have spent on a gift, to Macmillan or Kemp Hospice.

Miss Hill added: “When we originally booked the wedding I brought a brand new wedding dress.

“But when I went mother and bride shopping with my mom, she saw a dress which she thought was beautiful and made me try it on. Now I have two wedding dresses.

“I am donating the original dress to Kemp Hospice so they can auction off this brand new wedding dress that has never been worn.

“I want to thank so many people who have donated things to our wedding for free. Our transport is being provided by Heart to Heart Vintage Volkswagens, Mike Skilbeck is providing a disco, our friends Amy and Lee for creating the invites and also Pete and Jo for doing the catering for our big day.”

Miss Hill’s stepdaughter, Keeley Pearce, is holding a Wolverley’s Got Talent competition in the New Year, and everything raised through the event will also be donated to the couple.

Proud friend, Linda Bow, said: “In my book, this is an amazing and unselfish thing for them to do.

“They wanted to raise money for Kemp Hospice as thank you for all their support at this difficult time or them as a family.

“They have said they do not want gifts at their wedding and that they have each other and that is all they need.

“They will have buckets from Kemp and Macmillan and they are just asking people whatever they would have spent as a present, to donate to these deserving charities.”
