ST John’s Church in Wolverley held its ‘Soup Lunch for Shalom’ event and raised over £1160 for disabled children in Lima, Peru.

The event was held to raise funds for the Shalom project which provides physical, emotional and spiritual support to disabled children and their families.

The menu included broccoli and stilton, carrot and coconut, celery and apple, and spinach and watercress, followed by a choice of delicious cakes and a hot drink for the price of £5.

At times the queue stretched into the car park and more than 120 portions were served in the Church Hall.

Jill Gramann, event organiser, said: “Sincere thanks are due to Joy Darkes, Jude Punt, Anita Perkins and Jenny Hughes who were the soup chefs and worked so hard in the run-up and on the day, to Sally Wagstaff and Sue Mantom who boldly managed the queues and the raffles.

“Mid Counties Co-operative provided money for the bread and other essentials; raffle prizes were given by Hudson Florists of Kidderminster, the Old Smithy Tearooms at The Lock, Sainsbury’s, Tesco in Cookley and individual donors.”
