JUNK modelling, archery and magic are just some of the new workshops launched at a Kidderminster Primary School to help children take on new challenges.

Franche Community Primary School’s new enrichment programme aims to teach lifelong skills to pupils in a fun learning environment.

The programme, led by teacher Emma Running, aims to build on the school’s current extra-curricular and wraparound care schemes.

Miss Running said: “We want to help our children realise their potential in all spheres of life. We think it’s vital, particularly for those of our children whose opportunities outside school are limited.

“The workshops are fun, but embedded in each of them is a range of vital skills, from collaboration to empathy, healthy living to leadership, self discipline to problem solving.”

Each Friday afternoon will be dedicated to the skills workshops, taught by staff or specialists, culminating each week in a celebration assembly where pupils showcase what they have learned.

More than 40 workshop options are available to children from reception to year 6, with each one running for a term.

They include dance, puppet making, storytelling, Spanish, French, cookery, Lego-building, table tennis, learning Maori, chess, making music videos, drama, computer coding and swim lifesaving.
