THE Fire Fighters Charity is holding a Fright Night at Drakelow Tunnels in February, to raise money for injured service personnel.

The night-time vigil is to be held at the tunnels on Friday, February 20, from 8.30pm to 3am and all who stay until the end will receive a certificate. The registration fee is £15 and the minimum sponsorship amount is £35 and there will be a prize for the person who raises the most money for the event.

Emma Evans, regional fundraising officer, said: “We are holding this event in aid of injured firefighters and their families, to support them by offering rehabilitation and recuperation at one of our three centres in the UK.

“We invite everyone over the age of 18 to come along. Money raised from the event will go towards supporting our beneficiaries and offering vital support to those that need it.”

The Fire Fighters Charity is a leading provider of support and rehabilitation services for the fire and rescue community. They are there for everyone serving in the UK’s fire and rescue service and their families.

Their three rehabilitation centres help them get back on their feet after injury, trauma and problems in their lives. Serving and retired firefighters can also call the trained advisers on the helpline for support with any issues, from claiming benefits to improving family relationships.

Hidden away beneath Kingsford Country Park, near Wolverley in Kidderminster, the Drakelow Tunnels are over three miles and have served as a bunker for World War II and as a nuclear bunker during the Cold War.

During the 1950’s construction and running of this facility, six people are thought to have died. These deaths are from roof collapse during excavation and fatal human error during operation. It is believed most of the haunting that occur there are from the people who died there.

One of the most well known spirits is that of Oswald. He is believed to be one of the people who died there many years ago. He has been known to pull hair, move objects and touch people throughout the tunnels.
