NATIONAL Grid is starting three weeks worth of work today (February 23) replacing the old metal gas main in Summer Place, Kidderminster.

While the work is carried out Summer Place will be closed to through traffic between Bewdley Road and Pineridge Drive. A diversion route will be clearly signposted.

The new main being installed will make the local gas network safer and more effective for local residents and businesses. Once in the ground, the new pipe will last for several generations and will need little or no maintenance. Stephen Murray, of National Grid, said although inconvenient, the work was essential.

He said: "We know that some of the essential work National Grid has to carry out to replace the gas mains creates disruption and inconvenience, but we are always looking for ways to minimise these problems. In this situation we advise motorists to allow extra time for their journey and perhaps find an alternative route."
