ST Basils in Kidderminster has been awarded £2000 in the Lloyds Bank Community Fund 2014.

After votes from members of the public were counted, St Basils Charity received a £2000 grant from Lloyds Bank to support its ongoing work within the local community.

St Basils provides accommodation which meets the needs and aspirations of homeless young people. The award is being used to refurbish an activity room where young people play games, relax and socialize, which is important in developing social awareness and understanding by providing group interactions with peer groups.

Derrick Manyanda, St Basils Wyre Forest coordinator, said: “We are delighted to have won this award of £2000 from Lloyds Bank. On behalf of our young people we would like to say a huge thank you to our local branch and all the customers for voting for us.

“We house homeless people aged 16-25 and we have a training kitchen and ICT room but no other communal space. Having suffered a housing crisis, the young people that come to us are often lacking in self-confidence and this award will allow us to buy all the equipment we need to create an activities room to help young people socialise with each other to improve their general sense of well being, in a relaxed and homely environment.”
