STOURPORT schoolchildren recently spent the day at a school in ‘France’ practising the language and tasting French cuisine.

Luckily the year three pupils from Burlish Park Primary School did not have to travel far as their French experience had been arranged in their classrooms.

The children started the day off with a visit to the Burlish Bistro to sample their petit dejeurner (breakfast), which included croissants, pain au chocolat, dipping chocolate and freshly pressed orange juice.

Building up to the afternoon, pupils learned new French phrases about foods from different regions and had their own chances to become sous chefs by helping to prepare a meal for the afternoon, including onion soup and fresh bread. They also sampled a variety of French cheeses, pates and delicacies.

As well as finding out the culinary differences between England and France, the children explored French artists, and explored works by Matisse, creating their very own image in the style of Matisse.

Class teacher Ella Clarke said: "The children thoroughly enjoyed the day. The children had the opportunity to order their breakfast in French and become mini-French artists. It was brilliant to visit France for the day."
