A KIDDERMINSTER College learner has come third in the national final of a prestigious awards ceremony where she faced stiff competition from 24 other stylists.

Charlotte Swash, 22, a Level Three Hairdressing student, took first place in the West Midlands heat of the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) held at Bedworth. She secured her place at the national final in Blackpool, on Monday, March 16.

She said: “I am the first learner from the college for some years to win through to the final and, while I am disappointed not to take the title, it was a fantastic experience taking part in a national competition.

“I really love studying at the college because of the fantastic facilities and the fact you can have a go at everything here and are also able to be creative and enter competitions such as this one.”

Kate Williams, tutor at the college, said: “Anyone considering a career in hair and beauty should consider coming to Kidderminster College where we have fantastic facilities and industry-trained tutors who can really bring out the best in everyone, as Charlotte’s success shows.

“We will aim to get more of our learners through to finals at these competitions as they will support their development into the cutting edge stylists of the future.”
