COACH Andy Stooksbury slammed his Kidderminster Carolians Rugby Club side when they were beaten 24-14 at home by Old Salteleians in Midlands Three West (North) on Saturday.

Stooksbury said: "It was possibly the worst performance of the season with indiscipline and poor first line tackling.

"We again conceded two early tries and were always chasing the game. There were times when we had chances to get back into the game but were our own worst enemies."

He added: "We need to be far more focussed when we go to Aston OE on Saturday where I believe we can turn them over as they are on a very poor run."

Before Saturday's kick-off both sides observed a minute's silence in memory of club stalwart Andy Kerrigan who passed away last week, aged 38.

Having already beaten their visitors in the league and cup, KCs appeared to start confidently and penned the visitors into their own 22 for the opening 10 minutes.

However, Salts' first foray into KCs territory resulted in a converted try when their flanker was allowed to run unchallenged from a lineout and midway through the half more flimsy tackling enabled the Salts fly-half to score under the posts.

The conversion took the visitors into a 14-0 lead but KCs reduced the deficit with a try by flanker Jav Iacono after Salts were pressurised into conceding possession by full-back James Whitehouse following a breakout from the home side's 22.

Tom Scandrett added the two points to bring KCs back into the match but a spate of yellow cards led to five minutes of uncontested scrums and the game became increasingly disrupted and messy.

KCs began the second-half half well on top but missed a simple penalty opportunity and were again undone by loose tackling when Salts ran virtually the length of the pitch to score under the posts.

The conversion was missed but 10 minutes later Salts finished off a 20-metre driving maul with their fourth try.

Close to the whistle Rob Delahay went over for a try which Scandrett converted but it was scant consolation for a lethargic, ill-disciplined display which the Marlpool Lane men will quickly want to put behind them.

On Saturday KCs are away to Aston Old Edwardians, kick-off 2.15pm.

l Cleobury Mortimer remain next to bottom in Midlands Four West (South) after a thumping 49-5 away defeat to Dunlop.

l Stourport moved up to fourth place in Midlands Five West (North) when they proved too strong for bottom team Yardley & District and won 24-10.

l Chaddesley Corbett were unable to make any impression in their 35-0 home defeat by Birmingham Civil Service in Midlands Six West (South West).
