A DEDICATED Kidderminster charity worker has been shortlisted for a prestigious national in recognition of her efforts.

Lesley Tite, from Bewdley, runs the Mobile Service Team at Beacon Employment, a charity which supports disabled people towards work, and is in the running for a National Learning Disability Award.

For more than ten years Lesley’s team has enabled people with significant learning difficulties to take part in work-related projects.

The awards – to be held at the ICC, in Birmingham, on Friday May 15, celebrate excellence in support for people with learning disabilities and aim to pay tribute to individuals and organisations who excel in providing quality care.

Lesley has been nominated for the Trainer Award, which acknowledges the importance of trainers in ensuring that staff are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to provide first class support.

Her Mobile Service Team travels from the charity’s Hoo Farm Industrial Estate base in a crew cab tipper truck with tools and equipment to carry out landscaping, clearance work and general garden or commercial grounds maintenance around the Kidderminster area.

Lesley said: “I’m thrilled to be nominated for the award, but I couldn’t do any of this without my team, who support each other and produce the best work that they can for our clients.

“This is recognition of the work we all do which ultimately impacts positively on the well-being of the people who use the vital services that the charity provides.”

The charity’s chief executive, Sandy Beech, added: “Lesley ensures that all of our clients are trained to their individual potential and are able to operate to that potential with the right level of supervision.

“She offers expert training and support to give our clients confidence to carry out tasks which others might assume are beyond their capabilities.

“Because of this our clients grow in confidence and self-esteem as they learn and put into practice useful and meaningful skills. They learn about working practices and routines, how to work alongside colleagues in an appropriate way and how to finish a job.

“Lesley’s endless patience and determination enables them to do this reinforced by a good sense of humour which supports them in times of frustration.”
