HUNDREDS of proud scouts and guides took to the streets of Wyre Forest to proudly march in celebration of St George’s Day.

Sunday (April 26) saw processions take place in Kidderminster, Bewdley and Stourport to mark St George, who is also the patron saint of the Scout Association.

In Kidderminster, more than 1,000 scouts and guides marched through the town, with the streets lined with families, friends and onlookers.

For the first time, the parade featured four bands; Shirley Pipe Band, The Kidderminster Boys Brigade Band, The Kings Norton Youth Marching Band & the Halesowen Scout Band.

A service for the guides, brownies and rainbows was held at Baxter Church whilst scouts, explorers and young leaders attended a service to St Mary’s Church.

Among the guests at the two churches included Kidderminster Mayor Mike Price, Julie Goodyear, Kidderminster District Scout Commissioner, Derek Barnes, County Commissioner for Scouts and Council leader Marcus Hart who is also Kidderminster Scout District Chairman.

The event also saw them raise more than £300 to go to Birmingham Children Hospital’s Children’s Cancer Centre Appeal.

Mark Woodward, spokesman for Kidderminster and District Scouting, said: “It was an absolutely brilliant day with one of the biggest crowds we’ve had.

“We were also very grateful to the weather and many people were impressed with the parade. I want to thank everyone who helped and worked so hard on this and it is a great example of people pulling together to make the event such a success.”

In Bewdley, scouts and guides also proudly took part in a parade from Riverside to St Anne's Church for their St George's day service.

Stourport scouts and guides also donned their uniforms to march from the town’s Memorial Park to the Civic Hall for a service.
